This project is all about the historical and scientific world of dinosaurs. Children will learn all about how they lived, when they lived and how they behaved. Children will learn how to move like the dinosaurs and learn about the mathematical language of bigger, big, small, smaller, tall, taller, short and shorter when describing different species. They will learn about how some dinosaurs were similar and different and learn the vocabulary herbivore and carnivore. During the topic the children will have the opportunity to go on 'dino hunts' and see dinosaurs walking through our school grounds using the IPads.
This week the Reception class had a very special dinosaur visitor who left a friendly T-Rex for them to play with. The children have been busy creating dinosaur puppets, paintings and playdough figures. We have discussed the similarities and differences of dinosaurs and they have shared their likes and dislikes with the class. The children have been counting and adding 'one more' to a set of dinosaur eggs as well as independently writing about their favourite dinosaurs. The children have loved exploring our dinosaur role play area and especially creating their very own dinosaur music!
This week the Reception children have enjoyed reading a variety of story books and are beginning to identify lots of key words and use the pictures as clues to find out what is happening in the story. Remember to comment in your childs home reading record and ask them whether they enjoyed the story.
This week we have been focusing on 2D shapes. The children have played a variety of games involving shapes including shape bingo, memory games, snap and shape jigsaws. We have looked for shapes in the indoor and outdoor environment and sorted shapes into different groups. Congratulations to Jenny for being awarded 'Pupil of the Week' and Tiana for being our 'Welsh Speaker of the Week'. All the children have been given new reading books to take home, please remember to return them with their reading record by Wednesday.
