Monday 18th April - Friday 26th April

Reception have been learning about Teeny Tiny Things! This week we have started with everybody's favourite SPIDERS! We have been getting creative and painting our own spiders and making a spider web! We have read all about The Very Busy Spider and written about her to. I bet Reception can tell you why she was so busy! I wonder if the sun or the rain won in our Incy Wincy Spider maths game?

Monday 11th April - Friday 16th April

Welcome back Reception! We hope you have had a fantastic Easter break and enjoyed lots of Easter eggs! This week we are getting right back into the swing of things. We have been spelling our names in different ways. We have been learning different ways to start words and telling Mr Lane all about our Easter news! Take a look!

Monday 21th March - Thursday 24th March

Happy Easter Reception! A massive thanks to everyone that helped with our brilliant costumes and fantastic easter bonnets! We have been up in our Easter balloons take a look!

Monday 7th March - Friday 11th March


This week Reception have been busy learning all about animals at the farm! We have been using out maths skills in many different ways including collecting data and using pictographs! We have also been playing different games in class to improve our adding up and learning tricky sounds that words begin with. Mr Lane has been very impressed with our maths work this week!

Monday 29th February - Friday 4th March


This week Reception have been enjoying our Welsh Celebrations! Congratulations to the Green House for their Eisteddfod victory! We would like to thank everyone who was involved for making it a very special day. It was great to see so many children dressed to impress on Dydd Dewi Sant. This week Reception have been busy telling the story of St David in their own words. Mr Lane is very impressed at how much the children can remember about our patron saint. We would like to thank Mrs Blackmore for our special treats shown below.



Monday 21st February - Friday 26th February

Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic half-term break. The children are straight back in with a bang as it is Welsh Week at Pencaerau. Reception have enjoyed learning about all things special to Wales. We have also been using our maths skills to work out all the different ways to make 5 using Welsh cakes! As part of our St Davids day celebrations we have been busy painting daffodils and admiring all of our fabulous competition entrees made at home! We would like to say a special thanks to everyone who helped the children get creative!

Monday 8th February - Friday 12th February

This week the Reception have been using what they learnt about Elmer to write about him using key words! We have also been learning how to count one more and one less! Mrs Mackay has been particularly impressed with our super readers.

Reception would like to say diolch to Elmer!



Monday 1st February - Friday 5th February

This week the Reception classroom has gone animal mad! We have been looking after Elmer and his friends. The children have been very excited about helping Elmer and Elmer has written back to them after all their hard work helping Elmer and his friends line up together properly!

Monday 18th January - Friday 24th January

This week the Reception classroom has been transformed into a frozen kingdom. The children have been learning all about the polar regions. Children have been hands on exploring and even experimenting with ice in class!

Monday 4th January - Friday 8th January

Welcome back to our Reception children! We have had a lovely first week of the Spring Term and have been busy revising our numbers from 1 to 5 as well as learning the two new sounds of d and o. We have also been learning the story of Little Bear and the children have practised some of the key words that they have learnt.



Welcome back to a brand new year at Pencaerau Primary School. We hope you have had a great Summer Holiday and are looking forward to starting the new year as much as the staff.

At Pencaerau we aim to create a rich, stimulating environment where children are encouraged to think for themselves, solve problems and become active independent learners.

Our Topic this term is called




During this topic we will be learning about lots of different foods.
We will taste, smell and compare lots of different foods using lots of exciting words to describe them such as; hot, cold, sour, sweet etc. We will also be taking part in lots of activities that will further our understanding of the importance of a balanced diet, food from different countries and lots more! We will finish our topic with a big teddy bears picnic!

Week Beginning: 21st September 2015

This week has been really busy and the children have begun to settle into the school day routine very well. As part of our topic 'Scrumptious' we have read Handa's Surprise and tasted the all different fruits that appear in the story, except the guava as I couldn't find a shop that sold them! We have also been learning how to write our name, recognise and form the letters 's' and 'a', count on and back to 10 and learned how to say good morning, thank you and goodbye in Welsh.

Week Beginning: 14th September 2015

Reception have had an excellent first week and have settled in fantastically well to school life. This week we have been working on our numbers to 10 and recognising and naming shapes and their properties (square, triangle and circle.) The children have enjoyed going up to school dinners and especially playing in the playground and on the trim trail during lunch.
