Croeso i'r Blwyddyn 5
Teacher: Mr Williams
Welcome back to school for our final half term. We hope you had a relaxing holiday and are ready for the exciting activities we have planned for the next 7 weeks.
This project has a science focus and teaches children about different types and sources of energy and the social, environmental and economic impact of these. At the heart of this project children write letters to communicate with a range of fictional and real organisations and develop additional skills in writing explanations and making scientific recordings.
In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by creating a micro wind farm in the school grounds. In this project the children will learn:
• About different sources of energy;
• How these work and what forces they use;
• About the uses of different power and energy sources in our everyday lives;
• About the impact of energy sources on humans, economy and the environment;
• About the generation of Energy from Wales;
• How to carry out fair tests;
• How to make a range of models to generate energy;
• How to record and draw inferences from data;
• How to write letters in a formal style.
With half of Year 5 and 6 travelling to Kingswood, the remaining children were spilt into teams and given the challenge of building the highest possible tower.
They were only able to use spaghetti, blue tack, marshmallows and masking tape to create their structures.
Here are some of the photos from the session.
The class were split into groups and given the challenge to separate a mixture of different size and shape materials. All the children successfully separated the materials using a variety of methods but not many groups decided to pick out the larger objects using their hands!
Times Tables Practice
Here is an worksheet generator to practise your times tables.
You can change the times tables that you want to learn by following the instructions at the top of the sheet. Unfortunately you can't answer the questions on the computer, but as long as you have a pencil and a piece of paper, this is a fantastic resource! It even uses inverse operations, so that you really work hard to reinforce your times tables with both multiplication and division!
