Class Teachers: Mrs Ruggles and Miss Dicker
Our new topic for this term is Keen To Be Green which looks at numerous environmental issues and what the pupils can do to help! The topic gives opportunities to develop research skills using the internet and news articles aswell as lots of opportunities to be creative through art and DT projects which the children should really enjoy! As with previous topics if you or the pupils have any interesting information or artefacts related to the topic then feel free to bring them in to share with the year group!
Look at this video that will help to explain climate change.
We have had a very busy final 2 weeks! The children worked very hard to make our Leaver's Assembly a great success. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to watch us. The children thouroughly enjoyed their Leaver's Party, have a look at the photographs below from the evening! We would like to wish all of the children in Year 6 every success and happiness for the future. Good luck for Year 7
This fortnight the Year 6 children have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to take a 4 day educational visit to France. They have learnt about the country and it's culture, including a visit to some historical WW2 areas and a visit to one of France's many theme parks! The children have also taken part in a day visit to Wales' International Whitewater Rafting Center at Cardiff Bay, where they learnt how to kayak and had the opportunity to race against other schools. We are now very busy rehearsing for our leavers assembly and preparing for our Summer Fate, sports day and a levers party. Not long left now Year 6 but still lots to do!
We have had another very busy couple of weeks, rehearsals have
started for our leavers assembly, we have been preparing
for the summer fair which is nearly upon us and we have also taken part
in a workshop with Cardiff magistrates court. Pupils got to act out a whole
trial and use their own judgment to give a verdict and then sentence the
defendant if found guilty. We have also been composing our own songs
and looking at the habitats of plants and animals.
This week we were invited to take part in a 'Show Racism the Red
Card' workshop at the Caerau Ely football ground.
Pupils took part in a mock press conference with some ex pro
footballers and followed this up by writing their own newspaper articles.
Some pupils also took part in an athletics transition day at Leckwith
stadium which was a lot of fun!
Once again we have been working hard on our Language
and Maths skills in preparation for our National Numeracy
and Reading tests which started this week. Some of the pupils
have been lucky enough to take part in a cycling road safety
course, learning how to cycle safely on the roads.
Monday 8th April - Friday 19th April
During this fortnight we have been very busy focusing on our language and maths skills. The children have been very enthusiastic about our new topic of 'Keen To Be Green' and are looking forward to researching the topic in more detail. We were visited by a dental specialist who taught us how to take good care of our teeth, we learnt lots of fascinating facts about sugar levels in our food and drink.
Each week the children will recieve spelling words to learn, they will then be tested on the following Monday.
Individual teachers will also give maths homework related to the topic we have been working on in class.
PE days! Don't Forget to bring in your P.E kit every Tuesday & Thursday!!
The pupils will be receiving details shortly of visits to their High Schools and transition days later in the term. As in previous years if Year 6 pupils continue to work hard they will be rewarded later in the term with an Awards Ceremony and Leavers Party, there will also be a leavers assembly towards the end of the term. Keep checking the website for specific dates and details.
